Fulcrum Public Affairs Welcomes Zack Laven
November 17, 2022 – Washington, D.C. – This week, Fulcrum Public Affairs announced that Zack Laven, a former senior Republican Hill staffer, has joined its team as a Vice President.
Zack joined Fulcrum in November 2022 from the office of Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ-06), where he served as Deputy Chief of Staff, managing the Washington, DC office and handling a variety of policy areas. He served in this office for six years.
Before working in the U.S. House of Representatives, Zack worked as a Government Relations Specialist at the Dow Chemical Company covering trade issues between 2015 and 2016. As part of the Government Affairs Development Program, he worked in Washington, D.C., Brussels, and Midland, Michigan. While in D.C., Zack’s work focused heavily on developments concerning U.S. trade policy, specifically areas of the business impacted by legislation and public policy that included Trade Promotion Authority, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), and other WTO agreements. Additionally, Zack supported the Dow team in Midland, creating and delivering strategic communications support for the Michigan Operations Vice President. While abroad, Zack monitored and analyzed Brussels trade policy debates, policy initiatives, and legislative proposals, including TTIP, bilateral EU agreements, and environmental policy issues.
“Zack will add important capacity to our team through his acumen in trade policy and other issues that fall within the jurisdiction of the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees. Much of our client work falls into these key areas, so we look forward to putting his valuable skillset into play at the firm,” said Dana J. Thompson, Co-Founder and Partner of Fulcrum Public Affairs.
Zack has worked closely with the Republican National Committee, the European Institute, the Foreign Policy Initiative, the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, and the Transatlantic Policy Network. Zack is a Scottsdale, Arizona native, and began his career in D.C. by attending American University where he received a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and International Politics. Zack also earned a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
“Zack has demonstrated a deep knowledge and understanding of both policy and politics. He has a breadth and depth of relationships in the House Republican Conference that will be a tremendous asset to our firm. We look forward to adding another talented and quality person to our expanding team at Fulcrum,” said Fulcrum Co-Founder and Partner Oscar Ramirez.
