Fulcrum Public Affairs Welcomes Emily Lavery

January 30, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Fulcrum Public Affairs is delighted to welcome Emily Lavery as a Vice President at the firm. Emily joins Fulcrum after spending nearly seven years working on Capitol Hill for U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC). Emily is Fulcrum’s second hire of a former senior Republican Hill staffer as the firm continues to expand its bipartisan advocacy on behalf of clients.

Most recently, Emily worked as an investment advisor to ultra-high net worth investors at top global investment firm AllianceBernstein. There, she directly managed roughly $115 million dollars in private wealth on behalf of her clients and provided analysis of client-specific capital markets and tax scenarios, advice on the macro-economic and geopolitical landscape, and proposed plans for long-term wealth and tax solutions.

Prior to her time at the investment firm, Emily worked in the office of Senator Tim Scott, who is soon to be appointed as the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee. Emily served as Staff Director for the Senate Finance Subcommittee on Energy, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure, and senior advisor for tax, trade, and economic policy to Senator Scott. She served in this role throughout the drafting and passage of the historic Families First Coronavirus Response Act, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, and other measures. She also served as the lead advisor for the implementation of Senator Scott’s keystone initiative, the Opportunity Zone tax incentive.

Earlier in her Senate career, Emily also served as the Republican Staff Director for the Senate Entrepreneurship Caucus and managed the Small Business, Judiciary, Energy and Natural Resources, Agriculture, Environment and Public Works, and other priority portfolios for Senator Scott.

“Emily’s technical expertise, experience, and savvy as a lawyer, senior Senate professional staffer, and client manager has allowed her to jump right into action for our clients. We’re proud of our new team,” said Dana J. Thompson, Co-Founder and Partner of Fulcrum Public Affairs.

“We are excited that Emily has joined our team. Emily’s expertise in tax policy and senior level relationships on the Senate Republican side will strengthen and broaden our ability to deliver for our clients,” said Oscar Ramirez, Co-Founder and Partner of Fulcrum Public Affairs.

A native of Fairfax, Virginia, she received a BA in political science from the University of South Carolina, and later earned her J.D. from the Washington College of Law at American University.
