Washington, D.C. – Fulcrum Public Affairs is excited to announce Luz Eleane Martínez has joined its team as the firm’s Chief of Staff.
Luz is an executive leader and political strategist. Between 2017 and 2022, Luz worked with local elected officials in DC Government. Luz has served as Chief of Staff and Communications Director to DC’s Ward 1 Councilmember and Chair of the Committee on Human Services, Brianne K. Nadeau. During her time with Councilmember Nadeau, Luz served as a political advisor to the member and oversaw the daily operations of the Personal and Committee offices.
Luz previously served as an Analyst for At-Large Councilmember Robert White’s office. Luz worked on issues involving the expansion of universal early childhood care, increasing access to affordable housing, removing barriers to employment for returning citizens, and restoring voting rights to historically disenfranchised groups. She also served as the lead staffer on the introduction of the Sexual Harassment Data Collection and Reporting Act, a law establishing a new system to increase transparency and accountability around sexual harassment claims within District government for its nearly 35,000 employees. In 2020, she served as Communications and Digital Director for Councilmember White’s reelection campaign.
Luz was the first Latina to run a mayoral campaign in Washington, DC, serving as Campaign Manager to At-Large Councilmember Robert White during the 2022 Democratic Primary. Luz remains dedicated to the work of increasing political representation and engagement with the Latino community through her seat on the Board of Directors of the District of Columbia Latino Caucus. In 2021, she was elected by the membership of the caucus to represent the Latino community of the Washington metropolitan area as Committeewoman to the DC Democratic Party. Luz launched her career in DC as a Fellow at Latino Victory Fund, an organization committed to building Latino political power.
“As Fulcrum continues to expand, Luz is an excellent addition to the team. Her experience working with political leaders, campaigns, and groups across the political spectrum will be incredibly valuable,” said Oscar Ramirez, Co-Founder and Partner of Fulcrum Public Affairs.
“Her reputation, relationships, and skillset at the federal as well as the local government level are a complement to the firm’s foundation. She will make us a stronger, more efficient team,” said Dana J Thompson, Co-Founder and Partner of Fulcrum Public Affairs.
Her rise in DC’s political scene has been recognized by national groups, earning her fellowships with EMILY’s List and New Leaders Council.
